Let's go for it!
“What is next is always better, it is my job to make it so”.

Step into a bright and shiny new year
For more than a month now, coaches, mentors, opinion makers and writers of all kind have been prepping us for the new year.
"What are your New Year resolutions?"
"New Year, New You"
"How to win in 2025"
"Be your fittest in 2025"
"How to have a happy, healthy 2025"
Those are just a few of the many captions that have been darting around online and in print, prompting us to take action. Admittedly, a new number, a new lunar calendar is a perfect moment to stop and reflect on ourselves, but it is not the only one. The end of summer and start of a new academic year also lends itself to that, and is not laden with traditions of making resolutions. The practice of new year resolutions is ancient and dates back to the Babylonians. Promises and sacrifices were made to deities in return for a more favourable life. Nowadays, there are no gods involved, and resolutions are made to oneself for oneself in a bid to create a better life.
Commitment to oneself, however, proves to be hard. Without the fear of the wrath of the gods, people struggle with keeping the promises they made at the beginning of the year. Various studies show that a high percentage of people do not pursue them for the full twelve months, with many abandoning after the first week and at the end of January.
Why is this so? Are our resolutions unrealistic? Are the goals we set ourselves not really ones we want to achieve? Or are we just too weak and lacking in resolve. Should we even bother with them if we don't keep them?
Yet, in spite of their low success, new year resolutions continue to be popular. Hope undoubtedly keeps us making them year upon year. Hope that one year we will be able to push ourselves to improve and become a better version of ourselves.
If personal development is our intention and we want success, instead of making a list of goals on our own, we should work with a life coach. Being accountable to oneself is challenging and makes many of our endeavours for transformation fail. A coach will provide support and accountability so that we may stay on track with our goals. A coach will also share tools and strategies to create better habits and positive change in our lives.
